Embracing Transformation Through Faith and Nature

At Mission Springs, there is always excitement about the work God is doing in and through their ministry. From children and youth camps to men’s and women’s retreats, lives are being transformed as people experience the presence of God in a sacred, Christ-honoring place.

A Summer of Faith and Leadership

Frontier Ranch, the children and youth camp at Mission Springs, has had a powerful experience this year. Hundreds of children and youth have made faith decisions, whether for the first time or as a renewal of their commitment to Christ. These moments are not just fleeting but are laying the foundation for future leadership, helping young hearts cultivate skills that will impact their faith journey for years to come.

Throughout the year, groups continue to experience the beauty and serenity of Mission Springs. As Executive Director Chuck Wysong says, “We create a sacred, Christ-honoring place where people can experience the presence of God and leave with a transformed life through Jesus Christ.”

Looking Up, Looking Around, and Finding Renewal

The towering redwoods surrounding the camp serve as a daily reminder of God’s grandeur. They encourage everyone who visits to pause, look up, and not lose sight of the wonder of God’s creation. Keeping your eyes open is a way to look out for each other, taking care of both the campgrounds and the community.

One pastor who attended a recent men’s retreat shared, “Thank you and your team for a great men’s retreat. I’m grateful for the opportunity to share this place with them. The worship was inspiring—I hated for it to end.” This sentiment reflects the heart of what Mission Springs is all about: creating a space for spiritual renewal and deep connection.

Science and Faith Intersect at 5th Grade Camp

One of their many impactful programs is the California Science Camp for 5th graders. Over the course of 3–4 days, students are led by a team of naturalists who introduce them to the wonder of creation. This year, 3,000 students, including 50% from lower-income families, will attend. Removed from their daily routines, kids form bonds and experience nature in a way that only camp can provide.

A Team United by Mission

Mission Springs is blessed with an incredible staff at all levels, working together to ensure that lives are changed by Christ through this ministry. Their staff is motivated not just by a job but by a mission—a calling to make a difference through Christ.

Retreats, Celebrations, and a Century of Ministry

The calendar is packed with opportunities for spiritual growth. From Covenant Family Camp over the 4th of July, to two impactful men’s retreats, large women’s retreats in the fall, as well as junior high and high school camps and retreats, there are countless ways to experience community and renewal at Mission Springs.

As they approach their 100th anniversary in 2026, Mission Springs is reflecting on the ministry, mission, and beauty of this incredible place. From the adventure of the ropes course to the peacefulness of the ocean waves during surfing excursions, every experience serves their primary goal: introducing and reintroducing Jesus to all who come.

Investing in the Future

Dave Hanson, director of finance, said, “Our long-standing partnership with Rollie Persson and NCP has been instrumental in sustaining and growing our ministry. This collaboration has supported financial needs, from utilizing lines of credit to purchasing an excavator for forest management and camp projects. Recent initiatives include refinancing our office buildings, ensuring that our 100-year-old facility remains strong for generations to come.”

Last year’s major renovation of Laurel Lodge improved accessibility for differently abled campers, a step toward making Mission Springs an inclusive place for all. As they continue to build and grow, they remain committed to providing a Christ-centered environment where lives are changed, faith is strengthened, and God’s creation is celebrated.
